28The World Wide Web is the Newest Crime Scene
Posted By: William Edward Mason on January 28, 2012 at 11:51 amIn any society, there are always bad people. Wherever someone has money and enjoys a comfortable lifestyle in addition to their nice income, some other person who applies no work into life comes and along and takes it from them. The most readily available image of the thief is the good old “hold you at gunpoint” sort. These criminals would rob you in some desolate alley for all of your money and jewelry, and then skate off to their getaway mobile. These are the criminals of old in their most popular portrayals.
This type of criminal would have a starring role in an old mobster film, the ones so overplayed they would be in a stark non-color version. As with their movie persona, these guys committed some atrocities. The film portrayals simply scared viewers, but street crooks are the ones to be held accountable for most of the fright and damage to citizens. These bad guys are the ones who make the streets unsafe at night, and are bait for sensationalist news reports adding to the hysteria.
These mafia guys committed crimes that rocked the nation. They were the societal rejects, the ones who, when families saw their grim faces rotting in jail, would turn their kid’s looks away, as if their menacing stare had some hypnotic quality. These guys are the cumulative force that the United States walks so carefully with its prison system. It is an interesting matter that such an open system cultivates: you have these seemingly unlimited free choices, yet it is just unconsciously understood and hoped for that you won’t infringe upon them. Unfortunately, while many of us pay mind to these laws, guys like these do not and it rips apart at the moral fiber of our nation.
The criminals of old, the ones that would hold you up with their guns and then take all of your goods, although a force to be reckoned with no doubt, are child’s play to our crooks of today. The criminals of today have an overpowering advantage; technology is on their side. You might think that technology is really on the law’s side, making it easier and faster to get these criminals but in fact it just makes more easily concealed. The crooks have adopted the high tech equipment for themselves and become quite adept with it.
Think of an outdated crime; the robbery. An angry criminal who was hurting for some money would see a wealthy looking person, someone they think they could overpower. If they had a loaded gun though, the last point was irrelevant. Weapon in hand and in a secluded area they would approach their victim, wave the gun around, and demand a ransom. Once they got all of the contents of the wallet, they would most likely let the person go. They would then run for the hills and lay low for a little while, until hopefully people just forgot about the crime.
In those times of old, only very rudimentary methods of catching the criminals existed, nothing like using satellite location and GPS tracking. These factors did not hurt the law too much though: with a well-staffed and highly trained police force, the thief was often caught quickly. There was not any tools of the trade they could make use of to try and scramble the evidence or hide themselves quickly. Once they were apprehended, there was no DNA clues to tie them at the crime scene, instead there was only a basic line-up and the victim, where the victim identified their abuser.
Technology to the rescue then, right? Not the case. While our steps in producing DNA evidence and other connections, these things also help the suspect evade justice as well. A car is all the technology needs for a criminal to escape nowadays; so what if they know who perpetrated the crime. If they can’t catch them, all of their information and leads are just useless paperweights. Many criminals, like hackers and identity thieves do their insidious business over the Internet, so there is no crime scene!
An intangible crime; the perfect crime. These are hard hitters for law enforcement, as there is no scene of the crime and due to the technological shield the criminal can put up around their location. Another scary thing is that, these identity thieves and hackers, as aforementioned, are seldom caught and brought to justice. So with no viable means to effectively stop them, we can only hope to protect ourselves from their strike. Always be very wary online, and protect yourself with a multitude of Internet security systems. And avoid secluded areas!

27How Important It Is To Install Business Alarm And Security Systems
Posted By: Adriana Noton on January 27, 2012 at 4:10 pmFor healthy operation of businesses in our modern world, there must be a sense of protection against the common crimes that affect their smooth running. The core reason for business alarm and security systems is to safeguard the welfare of the employees as well as protect the assets. These systems actually scare burglars away and alert the person in charge of monitoring the system as well as the police for further action thereafter.
The security system to install goes hand in hand with the nature of the company, for instance a company that sells goods of high value will have to put in place a system to protect the property against theft or robbery. You need to first sit down with the person from the security company in order to discuss the nature of your business and the employee activities. Both physical and virtual protection is needed in your company. Physical protection is imposed on employees and assets whereas virtual protection is on data protection against online intrusion and hacking.
The right alarm and security system should be put in place because there are many new and more effective systems to put in place instead of those ineffective old ways. It is important to first determine the degree of risk associated with your enterprise since it will act as a guide to choosing the recommended ways to protect your company. Monitored business alarm systems for example, are highly recommended because they have police response during emergency, a 24/7 protection against burglars, they will detect faults instantly, etc.
Before the system is put in place, some key elements should also be put into consideration. These may include the number of people to access the control pads should be limited, the power source should be placed in a secure place to avoid one just switching it off, being very sensitive to intrusion like breaking of doors and windows, should be able to monitor the operation of your employees and response to any alarm should not be delayed.
The benefits of business alarm and security systems are not on the surface but you will find them when you deepen your trust in the system. The proprietor is no longer worried of crimes like being broken into and loss of stock. The staff and any other person in the company’s premises will be secure and more so the data about employees and customers will be kept safe. This provides the businessperson with peace of mind always.
Another importance is that there will be lower insurances since there are fewer chances of getting a break into your business. Since there is less need to make insurance claims, the company will pay low monthly premiums. Additionally, the insurance company could not be able to compensate you fully for the loss due to a break into your enterprise. This could be due to the big loss of stock and damage which will have to cost the business time for it to come to normal operation. Some companies will unfortunately collapse and stop operation. It is therefore important to impose some protection always.
Examples of system services are like access control which restricts and control employee access and also keep track of the incoming and outgoing activities in the enterprise. Digital video recording is another service that utilize image recognition, digital video and database storage to safeguard assets and against any leakage from the business. They are mostly used by medium size enterprises.
Businesses are urged to make use of business alarm and security systems Toronto that fit their scope of operation. To determine which system to employ, you need to put into mind the kind of crimes you may expect and finally the installation and maintenance of the whole system. Do not go blindly and sign for a contract that will not give you the expected returns.

It is fair to say that we’ve all been either a victim, or know a victim of vehicular break-ins, and it’s extremely inconvenient if it’s your family car. It can happen at any time and anywhere, even in your own garage. These immoral crooks will either smash their way into the vehicle to make a grab for the goodies they can spot through the windows, or take off with the car in attempt to sell it as a whole or as parts. The car doesn’t even have to be an expensive new model like you’d find in a car magazine – in fact, it’s more likely to be a less-well-protected older car! Pay attention to the following tricks and advice, and adding yourself to the climbing car crime statistics.
To start off, know that even the most pricey car alarm will have virtually no effect on a seasoned thief who is already in the process of hot wiring the engine. The psychological deterrence still stands among the more fledgling car thieves however, and you can try using it to your advantage. Instead of getting an alarm, just get the advertising sticker of the alarm company and paste it over your vehicle.
The time a victim takes to get inside a vehicle is a golden opportunity among muggers and carjackers. Pay attention to your surroundings as you approach your car, and make sure to have your key ready so you may enter the vehicle in the shortest span of time. Lock the doors the moment you get into the seat, since a seated driver is extremely vulnerable to a hijack attempt.
Leave nothing potentially rewarding inside your vehicle, especially not visible. Handbags and laptops are obvious targets, and the same could be said for a coat or a briefcase for anyone looking to plunder the goods each of them might hold. Just by placing these objects inside the boot can demote the temptation appeal of your vehicle in the eyes of car park thieves.
Another move that will make a great difference is finding a safe parking spot. Unattended car parks are always at the mercy of these rogues, but if you have to leave you car unsupervised, pick the most well lit and exposed spot to ensure maximum pressure on any thief working on your vehicle.
Larger outfits of car thieves have been operating their own tow trucks, and commit their crimes in public without arousing any suspicion. Whenever you park your car in public spaces, steer your frontal wheels toward the curb in addition to the emergency break. Both of these actions will make your car harder to tow.
Finally, it is imperative that no matter how little time you think you will take, never ever leave your car with the key still in the ignition. A few seconds is all they need for car thieves to emerge out of hiding, make a run for your car, then take off whilst laughing at your carelessness. There is no need to commit this easily avoidable mistake, and then lamenting at the fact you never got car insurance. Whether you have a family Toyota or something more expensive and exclusive, take every precaution you can to safeguard your family car.
Very few car owners are totally immune to car theft. Always get yourself the right vehicle insurance, so that if your prized wheels are taken you are safeguarded financially. Take photographs of your car for insurance purposes.. Unique version for reprint here: How To Combat Car Break-Ins.

05The Best Way to Defeat Modern-Day Locks
Posted By: Lamar Retherford on May 5, 2011 at 2:57 pmLock picking, in most cases, is a method employed by people who want to break into a home or a vehicle without the proper key. Thieves and those who just find breaking into homes challenging often improvise their picks so they can easily slip inside homes and vehicles undetected. Lock makers are not sitting idly by and doing nothing; they’re taking action!
Nowadays, more and more homes are furnished with better locks. Modern locks are supposed to be unbeatable using the traditional lock picking methods. But anyone who reviews locks understand that every lock has a weakness. An individual who knows how to bump a lock can apply the principles of lock picking and bumping to beat modern security gadgets. The vulnerabilities of contemporary locks are not the same as those of the antiquated locking gadgets.
Modern Locks and Their Vulnerabilities
1. Lock exploitation by confusion.
Digital locks and locks that use magnets are not foolproof. Any lock that is managed by an auto mechanism can be confused. A device may be a good thing, but a smart individual can find ways to confuse it. When a machine gets confused, or is trapped by something it is not familiar with, it goes on default. When the digital tool becomes confused, it relies on a back-up plan or it stops working. Since the technology behind the lock is in its electronic feature, the default locking mechanism is not as secure as the digital one.
2. Ruin the power source.
Many designs of magnetic locks need a steady power source. The device may become unlocked if the power source is disrupted. There may be some back-up mechanism to prevent this, but most of the time, the lock is dependent on a power source too much. Many electronic and electromagnetic locks are susceptible because of their dependence on electric supply. There may be a part of the main unit that can resist sudden power failures, but even this can be bypassed.
3. Getting Around the Lock Altogether
The doorway where the lock is hooked up can be more prone to attacks. Some safes are built in a certain way that the door part is sturdier than some of the other parts. Some thieves simply go for the doorway, not the locks.
Many individuals are curious about lock picking tactics because they want to be more informed about the strategies of thievery they should watch out for. Find out more about lock picks by signing up for more insider info on this subject.
